Robot Quest

Young people are introduced to modern uses of robotics and look at how robots have changed through history and adapted to our needs. They are then tasked with using a Sphero robot to rescue a person who has been injured in a disaster zone.

They must code their Sphero to avoid the obstacles and navigate to the casualty, before sounding the alarm and rushing back to alert rescuers.

Real World Design Workshop addition for British Science Week

To link in with the British Science Week theme of 'change and adapt', we are also offering an add on of the Real World Design Workshop. This will get the students to consider how other technologies have changed and adapted over time, then come up with their own new inventions in small groups. This will take the total workshop time to 2 hours and gives the students plenty of time to consider the ways robots have changed and how they will continue to be adapted for future needs.

Topics covered

  • Engineering

  • Computing

  • Geography

Logistics and Planning:

  • Needs to be delivered in a large classroom, hall or other clear space.

  • This session is designed for a group of 30 learners.
